I was alerted to this discussion featuring Greg Sandow, Alex Ross, Orli Shaham, and Fred Bronstein – all very distinguished thinkers in the field of the future of classical music. It’s well worth the listen and I encourage you all to take the time to really dig into the subject, and chime in with what you think!
Here’s a great quote about 47 minutes into the show from Alex Ross of The New Yorker Magazine:
“And we can all sort of sit here, you know, talking all day about the future of classical music and what should be done and what shouldn’t be done, but, you know, ultimately, the musicians themselves are the future. They make the future. And it is their connection to the audience that will dictate what happens next.” (emphasis Mike’s)
